The most practical places to store your will

When you marry or have your first child, you need to start thinking about creating a will. You do not want to delay this process too much, and you can easily find an attorney in Las Vegas or Henderson to assist you.

After you have finalized your will, it is time to decide where to keep it. It should go in a secure location where no one else will be able to tamper with it. You also do not want to risk it becoming destroyed. Here are a few good places to keep a will, and you should keep yours in at least a couple of them to be safe:

With your attorney

Although there are services online that will help you create a will, you are better off having an attorney assist you. An attorney will ensure you use the proper language to ensure your will distributes assets in the manner you want. You should create a copy of the original will to keep with your lawyer, especially if you plan on using the services of the law firm for the rest of your life.

In a safe deposit box

You will either keep the original document or a copy for your own use. You do not want this document laying around the house. Ideally, you will utilize a safe deposit box at your local bank to keep it. You will need to give someone else access to the safe deposit box so that your relatives can access the contents after your death.

In a waterproof safe

In the event you want a copy of the will inside your home, you should keep it in a fireproof and waterproof safe. This ensures the document remains safe in the event a fire breaks out in your home or another natural disaster occurs. Similarly to the safe deposit box, make sure to tell someone the will is inside the safe.
